Genesis Block

Genesis Block

Last Updated: January 11, 2026

Genesis Block is the first block in a blockchain, serving as the foundation for all subsequent blocks.

Genesis Block is the inaugural block in any blockchain network, marking the beginning of its chain. It is uniquely designated as Block 0 or Block 1, depending on the blockchain protocol. This block holds special significance as it contains the initial transaction or data that sets up the blockchain's parameters. In Bitcoin, it was mined by Satoshi Nakamoto on January 3, 2009. The Genesis Block is hardcoded into the blockchain software, ensuring its immutability. It serves as the foundation upon which all subsequent blocks are built, establishing the framework for the entire blockchain system.
