Stock Variable

Last Updated: January 11, 2026

Stock Variable is a measure that represents a quantity at a specific point in time, like a snapshot.

Stock Variable is a concept used in economics and finance to denote a quantity measured at a particular point in time. Unlike flow variables, which measure activity over a period, stock variables provide a snapshot of an asset, liability, or other financial metric. Examples include the amount of money in a bank account, the total number of shares outstanding for a company, or the inventory held by a business. In the context of a crypto/fiat exchange, stock variables could include the total reserves of a cryptocurrency held by the exchange at a given moment.
